الهدف من لعبة فَتْحَةٌ وَ سُكُونٌ هو شكل جمل في وقت محدد.يمكن اختيار المستوى الّذي يُطمح إليه بين المستويات المتاحة المعبرة عنها بالصدف الأخضر.لا يمكن تجاوز مستوى إلاّ بعد شكل عشرة جمل على الأقل بنتيجة تفوق 80٪تظهر الجملة المطلوب شكلها في أعلى الشّاشة و تصعد الحركات من أسفلها.يشير الطائر إلى الحرف المستهدف و يمكت تحريكه يمينا أو يسارا بواسطة الأسهم الموجودة على يسار الشاشة.بالنسبة للجملتين الأولتين لكلّ مستوى يتنقّل الطائر أطوماتيكيا من حرف الى حرف.في نهاية اللّعبة تظهر الجملة مشكولة.
